The Bauchi State Government has commenced the payment of compensation to owners of properties affected by the proposed Ilela–Kobi Road construction project in the state capital.
The compensation exercise, being carried out through the Bauchi State Ministry of Works, is aimed at ensuring the smooth implementation of the project while providing adequate compensation to residents whose properties fall within the road corridor.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Muhammed Hamisu Garba, said the exercise is part of Governor Bala Mohammed’s urban renewal programme, which seeks to address infrastructure deficits and improve road networks across the Bauchi metropolis.
He commended affected residents for their understanding and cooperation, noting that they had been duly notified to vacate the affected areas ahead of the commencement of construction work.
A community leader in the area, Abubakar Ladan Tambari, described the compensation process as transparent, fair, and well-organised.
One of the beneficiaries, Musa Yakubu Abubakar, also praised the state government for fulfilling its commitment to compensate affected property owners.
He expressed optimism that the road project would ease traffic movement, boost economic activities, and contribute to the overall development of Bauchi State.
A total of 69 property owners have been identified and are expected to receive compensation under the exercise, paving the way for the commencement of the Ilela–Kobi Road construction project.
