Kano L-PRES Contributes to Peace-Building Efforts in Kura Local Government

By Our Correspondent:

A high level peace-building meeting was held on Wednesday, 10th December, 2025 in Kura Local Government as key stakeholders convened for a high-level meeting to address recurrent clashes between farmers and herders. The meeting, held at the Kura Local Government Secretariat, was jointly chaired by the Local Government Chairman, the District Head (Dan Darman Kano), and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).

The session brought together representatives from security agencies, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, the Farmers’ Association, and the Kano L-PRES Project Team. Deliberations focused on understanding the root causes of the conflicts and establishing sustainable, community-driven strategies for peaceful coexistence.

During the meeting, the DPO, CSP Murtala Gidado, emphasized that maintaining peace is a collective responsibility and encouraged early reporting of tensions. The District Head urged both farmers and herders to see each other as partners in progress, while the Local Government Chairman reaffirmed the council’s commitment to strengthening surveillance, improving pasture development, and supporting structured grazing practices in collaboration with L-PRES.

Both the Miyetti Allah representatives and the Farmers’ Association pledged full cooperation. Herders committed to avoiding farm encroachment, while farmers agreed to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

The meeting closed with a shared resolution to promote dialogue, cooperation, and reliance on formal conflict-resolution mechanisms. Stakeholders applauded the ongoing contributions of Kano L-PRES to peace-building, describing the engagement as a key milestone in enhancing security and fostering community harmony across Kura Local Government.
