Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has launched an initiative to enhance fish production in Bauchi State by distributing essential starter packs to local fish farmers.
Speaking at the distribution exercise, National Senior Fisheries Officer Mrs. Khadija M. Salisu emphasized that the program is designed to improve key areas of aquaculture. These include water quality management, hatchery operations, juvenile production, and nutrition.
The initiative also features practical sessions and demonstrations aimed at increasing survival rates and overall productivity.
Mrs. Salisu highlighted the critical importance of modern fishing techniques and reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to launching further programs that will advance the sector.
She also urged the beneficiaries to make wise use of the supplied inputs.
On his part, the Field Officer for the Bauchi office, Salisu Muhammad, , noted that the distribution aims to elevate quality of production for both commercial and domestic fish farmers.
He encouraged recipients to use the items effectively to maximize their yield assuring that his office will conduct monitoring and evaluation to ensure proper use of the starter packs, guaranteeing that farmers derive the maximum benefit from the program.
Also speaking, Chairman Fish Farmers Association Bauchi,. Dr. Lukman Muhammad, praised the Federal Government’s initiative stating that the starter packs are a strategic move to stimulate aquaculture production and promote self‑sustainability among farmers.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, fish farmer Mrs. Mercy Sunday from Yelwa Bauchi expressed gratitude to the Ministry for the sensitization workshop and pledged to utilize the inputs to grow their businesses.
The exercise included the distribution of juvenile fish and 30 bags of Blue Crown feed to the farmers.
